I recently spent time in Berlin and was amazed by both the quality and quantity of contemporary art; and the Berliners’ attitude to World War 2. Instead of burying the horrors and trying to erase them from history, they have adopted a “this should never happen again” philosophy. There are numerous monuments that relate to the war and are a lasting reminder of what happened. In particular, walking through the over 2700 concrete slabs of the Holocaust Memorial made a lasting impression on me. My series of 3 sculptures "The Berlin series", is the result. |
